While I would not recommend leaving your brick-and-mortar office job—unless you already have a stable homebased online job waiting for you, I would talk you into looking for work-from-home opportunities, and on this post, I’d tell you why it would be more than worth it.
Number one, having a homebased job will allow you to eventually leave your office job (not to mention, your boss who you just can’t see eye to eye with or your colleague whose favorite pastime is stealing your packed lunch in the pantry). Number two, some homebased jobs simply pay better than their equivalent office jobs. Number three, some homebased jobs offer flexible time schedule so you can work at any time of the day or choose how long each work session will be.
Here are other 7 compelling reasons why you should get a homebased job and work from home.
1. No Commute!
You don’t have to navigate roads for traffic, beat the car beside you to the narrow opening in the road or even dodge on the street harried employees equally in a rush to reach their office.
Or perhaps you’re riding the bus or the train to and from your work? Well, then you know exactly how it feels to have someone’s big belly practically sitting on your shoulder or a stranger’s elbow swaying perilously close to your nose.
You don’t have to go through all of that every single day. You don’t even have to stress over how you’re going to get off when your unloading station is nearing and you’re ways away from the door and the only way out is a space not even big enough for your arms.

These are just some of the things you don’t have to deal with every day. I have motion sickness so I can’t tell you enough how much NOT having to travel for work actually makes me happy, healthy, and strong. Char! (seriously not char!)
2. No Traffic!
In Manila, traffic is the twin sister of travel. Did you know that the Philippines ranked 7th for the worst traffic in the world? EDSA looking like a parking lot in rush hour is a fact of life here in the Philippines. Unfortunate if you have to pass through EDSA for work, though we’re all familiar with traffic whether or not we use EDSA.
Traffic is stressful. Worrying when you might exactly arrive in the office– or if you’ll lose the 5,000/month incentive for punctuality– is bad for the health.
There are, in fact, studies that show the adverse effect of constant traffic to our health. Personally, I can’t imagine how it must be like for taxi and jeepney drivers, sitting in traffic every minute of every day. It must be tiring.

3. Work Anywhere
It’s cool having the freedom to work from anywhere. Even if you don’t have a flexible working time arrangement with your employer, you can easily go out of town and still be able to work. You can go on vacation anytime and anywhere there is an Internet to do your work.
Because my sister lives in Baguio, I vacation and stay in Baguio for extended periods all the time. And no, I don’t worry about leave of absence approval at all.
Also, if you’re tired of your karaoke-loving neighbor singing, “I did it my way…” at 8 in the morning, you can set out for Starbucks or any coffee shop near you, and work quietly from there. It is totally the coolest!

4. Work In Your Pajamas
You can work in your most comfortable clothes! And if you just woke up, for example, pressed for time and can’t spare any minute for a proper bath, you can work in whatever clothes you’re wearing, uncombed hair and all! Isn’t that awesome? But even more amazing is, when it’s time to take your lunch, you don’t have to spend anything!
5. No Expensive Lunch Expenses
It’s free lunch, yo! I mean, I’m sure you spend on grocery and have grocery expenses for food at home, but I’m sure the cost of your regular lunch at home is nothing compared to what you pay for lunch at work—except for days when you go to JolliJeep or call ate Lorna who takes “lista” orders for lunch, of course.
Having a homebased job and working from home means your lunch expenses are covered by your house expenses. And if you still live with your parents (and you’re exempted from grocery expenses and lunch cooking), you don’t have to worry a thing and just sit down on the table when it’s time to eat. Lucky you.
6. No Office Rules
Your house, your rules! Do you like eating chips while working? Do you like sipping wine while working to boost your creativity? Or perhaps you want to walk around constantly or stand up when you’re tired of sitting? Well, you can. I sometimes suffer from lower back pain—the hazard of sitting down working for long periods of time—so when I do, I work while lying down on my tummy every now and then.
7. Always Present
When you work from home, you’ll always be present in family gatherings and even in those little moments when your child (if you’re a parent) learns to climb the couch on her own. You will never miss your kid’s milestones anymore. As a parent, this is the most important reason of all other reasons, for me.
It was my motivation to leave my dream job (it was a writing job!) and explore homebased opportunities.
